Theodore and the Borrowed Bell is the sixteenth episode of the third season.

Northumberland Submarine is reluctant to lend Theodore his bell, but when the excited tug promises to take very good care of it, he gives in. Later that day Hank accidently bumps Theodore and the bell falls overboard. Theodore thinks that he can retrieve the bell before Northumberland finds out, but the longer Theodore holds off telling the truth, the more complicated things become. And when Theodore lies to George, he causes even more problems when Northumberland blames George for the missing bell, Theodore knows he has to tell the truth and so does Hank. Once he hears what happened, Northumberland simply dives underwater and retrieves his bell. And Theodore realizes that he should have told the truth in the first place. And Northumberland falls happily asleep.

  • Bobby is mistakenly referred to as the only barge in the harbour who can lift things up, when there are other barges with that capability, namely Barrington, Shelburne and Bayswater.
  • Theodore says he will get Bobby, but its Hank is the one who later brings him.
  • Northumberland would not have been able to dive under the water and fetch the bell so quickly.
